Brother Knights,
Our council met at the K of C hall on Wednesday, November 12th to discuss all the events that took place in the last few weeks since our last meeting. October and November are typically busy months for us and this year was no exception.
Reports on these events are as follows:
October 26th was the stewardship fair in the parish hall after the 10 am Mass. Our council made a batch of chili to feed the crowd aside from the other chili’s made by contestants. This is always a great way to present the Knights to the parish and enlighten others of the intentions of our council.
The 2217 Memorial Mass and dinner was held Wednesday November 5th. We remembered Dr. Stech, Jerome Schippers, Matt Eck, and Kevin Martin who passed away this last year. Our guest speaker this was Kathleen Timmermeyer with Birthline out of Wichita. She shared the history of her families involvement and the organization’s mission to provide much needed assistance to women going through pre- and post-partum difficulties. Thank you to all who helped with this, especially Kurt Wells, Dustin Rohr, and kitchen crew who coordinated the event.
Our council was asked to bartend a couple of weddings on Nov 8th, one in Andale and one in St. Marks. Both were a success, and we were able to inadvertently raise almost $1,000.00 without intentionally charging these families. This prompted interest in exploring the viability of making this a service provided by our council for hire in the future.
Our Knights of Columbus Turkey Shoot was Sunday, November 9th. The activity chairmen did a great job recruiting members for help and the community provided many great donations again this year for the raffle. We are in the process of evaluating options to increase attendance and interest in the event going forward to continue this tradition for our community.
Finally, on November 13th, we were asked by the 4th Degree Assembly 287 to host the Memorial Mass for all deceased 4th degree members in our region. Mass was said by Fr. Weldon at Andale Church and our kitchen committee prepared dinner for the gathering in the parish hall. Approximately 75 people were in attendance and Assembly 287 expressed immense gratitude and complimented the council for the ease of this turnkey event. Thank you to all who organized and helped!
Request for Member Involvement:
Sunday bingo is right around the corner we are looking for new help this season. Bingo takes place on the 2nd and 4th Sundays from January to April. We are looking for a team of 4 members to run 1 of these months so only 2 sessions. Please reach out to Bryce Seiler or myself if interested in heading a team or as a helper.
To better advertise our events, We would like to start a team to get the word out to help our attendance and overall success of each event. Ideally, 3-4 members from different parishes or with networks to expand our reach. This would entail getting these messages in surrounding bulletins, posting flyers in local businesses, setting signs on church grounds on the day off, and creative network marketing on social media. Please let me know if you are interested in helping with this.
Brother Justin Reichenberger and his family are taking care of cleaning and booking the hall for rentals. If you need to rent the hall or know someone who does, please contact Justin at 316-258-1170.
God Bless,
Pete Hilger
